  • “We're going to be a couple of weeks late getting harvested in North Dakota and Minnesota because of the wet and cool weather.”
  • “At the moment I don't think we have an issue with the supply of black beans. With pintos, that will just depend on if we have an early frost in North Dakota and it screws up some of the crop.” 
  • “The overall demand on US pea beans has diminished quite a bit because of competition from other producers.”

  • “In ‘24 we may see a rebound in black beans. Right now it’s hard to tell on pintos. It doesn't look like it - they might get some rain coming into Chihuahua but we don’t know.”
  • “Some of these tropical storms have dropped some moisture on Nairi, Zacatecas, Durango, the black bean areas. 
  • “I haven't seen the interest in blacks for new crop but we had been seeing pintos. So I think the pintos are a little more likely to be moving down in Mexico this year. At least that's what it seems like at the moment.”

  • “We’re done. The numbers just came out and they’re not as big as we originally thought they might be in planted acres.” 
  • “The weather has been very cool and wet. Two years ago, our yields averaged around 19 (hw/a) in the state, which was a record for pintos. And last year I think we were 16 or 17.”
  • “And this year right now they're saying 15. But some of the guys are saying they think that's a stretch. I’d say it’s looking average at best.”

  • “The domestics here seem to have purchased a lot of the bean varieties they need because they had problems last year. They didn't book, so they came up short and had to pay higher prices, things like that. So they jumped in a long time ago and booked.”
