Bean acres, biofuel and US politics/ An interview with Orion Roy-Wright of ADM Edible Beans
Luke Wilkinson talks to Orion about competition for beans into Mexico, the future of the protein industry and what the US elections mean for international trade.
“We just went to such a low point when everybody was making so much money on traditional commodities. Now as we go into a different cycle, we'll see beans recover a bit.”
“We think yellow peas are going to be higher than last year, and if I had to put a number on it, I'd say 5-10% up. There is also the dryness factor to consider.”
“Biofuel plants aren’t going to push pulses out – perhaps they limit massive growth in pulses as biofuels become more and more important, but I still think there's a lot of space for growth on the pulse side.”
