One of Belgium’s most experienced traders, Leslie Van Goethem of Casibeans, reflects on the past and future of pulses, the importance of staying curious, and his advice for newbies following in his footsteps.
After graduating high school, I simply applied for a job – I didn’t have much direction. Back in the seventies, it was a challenging time to find work, and, honestly, at the time I had no idea what the company even did! When I arrived I started as an assistant to the export manager, which meant preparing export documents and typing all day, initially on a manual typewriter and later on an electric one. It was repetitive work, but it gave me my first glimpse into international trade.
