India kharif pulse sowing update/
Igrain reports tremendous increase in planted area of kharif crops

The latest weekly data of the Union Agriculture Ministry shows that during the current year, until June 28, the total sown area of kharif crops at the national level has increased to 24 million hectares, 32% more as compared to the same time last year. A sowing area of 18.16 million hectares was recorded in the same period last year. Sowing of crops will further increase, and more rapidly, in July and August.

As far as pulses are concerned, prices have remained at a high level for a long time. Data from the Department of Consumer forum shows that the average retail market price of arhar dal in loose form has jumped from Rs. 128.66 per kg last year to Rs. 162 per kg at present and the average retail price of urad dal has increased from Rs. 111.77 per kg to Rs. 126.89 per kg. In some places, the price of branded Tur dal and Urad dal has even jumped to Rs. 250 per kg and Rs. 200 per kg.

As per the official data, during the current Kharif season, compared to last year, the production area of tur jumped from 84 thousand hectares to 1.3 million hectares, the sowing area of urad increased from 51 thousand to 0.32 million hectares and the area of green gram improved from 0.457 to 0.51 million hectares.
