World yellow pea supply to remain stable thanks to large Russian crop

A recent Rosstat of sown area figures for the country’s 2023/24 crops included updated figures for winter crops as well as spring crops. According to the report, the loss in winter wheat acreage was largely compensated by an increase in spring sowing. Pulses acreage is up 26% year-on-year, reaching a new record that includes a 17% rise in pea acreage to 1.9 million hectares. As the authorities only provide seperate figures for peas out of all pulses, we can safely assume that the acreage for chickpeas, lentils and vetches has also increased substantially.
