  • Global lentil production is expected to hover around record levels this year, coming close to or potentially surpassing 2017’s 7.3 MMT
  • Lentil markets are still refilling inventories afetr 2021’s drought-affected harvests in North America 
  • Consumption is predicted to increase along with production but trade is not likely to surpass 2020’s high of 5.2 MMT and will instead be around 4.9 MMT

2017: peak production?

In 2017, global production of lentils was 7.3 million MT, a new record. Since then, global production volumes have twice dropped below 6 million MT (in 2019 and 2021).
