We sat down with Dylan Karley of North Dakota-based grower, North Central Commodities, to get his view of the US black and pinto crops as we head towards harvest. He discussed the scale of this year's cuts to acres, unfavorable July weather, and a pricing/export outlook diverging sharply from last year’s lows.
US pinto bean acreage is estimated to be down close to 40% in North Dakota and Minnesota, while heat and drought have further reduced yield potential ahead of harvest.
Grower prices for US dry beans are already 60–75% above last year, with tighter supplies expected to fuel further volatility as harvest approaches.
