In Argentina, alubia bean yields have been lower than expected and caliber sizes have been disappointing.
Now, with half the crop still in the fields, frost is a major concern. Over in Egypt, growers have reaped a
nice quality crop and prices have softened on weak demand in the major alubia markets of Europe,
North Africa and Türkiye.
Meanwhile, in North America growers have just finished seeding their pea bean, great northern and faba
bean crops. In the case of pea beans, inventories have cleared out both in North America and in Ethiopia.
Australia is expecting a 70% increase in faba bean production compared to last year.
But buying is slow in Egypt, which typically takes two-thirds of the world’s faba bean export supply.
GPC’s Ask the Experts white and faba bean webinar explored the market dynamics at work in the major
white and faba bean markets.
